The Heart of England Co-operative Society has launched a new e-learning course showing employees how to promote better mental health for themselves and their colleagues in the workplace.
More than 850 colleagues in the Society’s Head Office and network of 35 Food stores have been invited to complete the course which was launched on Friday, just ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week which takes place this week (May 18 to 24).
This e-learning offering adds to the mental health awareness workshops previously delivered by Amanda Gibbons, the Society’s HR Manager and Catherine Evans, Training and Development Manager, coupled with onsite mental health awareness in the workplace training provided by MIND.
In this newly developed e-learning course colleagues learn about the various types of mental health illnesses – the signs to look out for and the support available. They can also take advantage of some self-help and self-care techniques.
Catherine Evans said: “This course empowers our employees to manage their own mental health and to look out for their colleagues.
“The importance of looking after our mental health has become ever-more critical in recent times with every one of us having to quickly adjust to a new way of life and a new way of working.
“The course teaches our colleagues what to look out for – for example a colleague who may be behaving differently – and what they can do to help.”
The Society has also supplied a range of useful tools including a going home checklist which shows people how to reflect on their day, and a wellbeing calendar.
