Towcester’s newest funeral home has opened its doors to the public following a £620,000 investment by the Heart of England Co-operative Society.
The opening of The Co-operative Funeralcare, situated within a Grade II listed building in Watling Street West, marks the first move into Towcester by the Society which operates a network of 34 Food stores and 14 Funeral homes across Coventry, Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
This includes The Co-operative Funeralcare in Daventry and The Co-operative food store in Crick.
Situated in former offices used by a charity, the new facility includes an arranging room and two chapels of rest. There is also office space upstairs which will be available, from time to time, for use by local community organisations.
Darryl Smith, General Manager of the Heart of England Co-operative Society’s Funeral Division, said the opening of the new funeral home has created jobs for a full time Funeral Director and two part-time Funeral Arrangers, with the opportunity for other part-time posts at the home.
He said: “The Heart of England Co-operative Society is delighted to be expanding into Towcester for the first time. We felt that the town offered us an opportunity to better serve our members in this locality in which our roots go back to 1866 when we first incorporated the nearby Banbury Co-operative Society into our business family.
“With our new team on hand, we will provide our client families in the Towcester area with the same level of first-class service families have come to know and expect at all of our other funeral homes.”
Offering a range of bereavement services, staff can give advice and information on every aspect of planning a funeral, from choosing a pre-paid plan, floral tributes, memorialisation and coffin, as well as more complex issues.
The Heart of England Co-operative Society has organised a dedication service for the new funeral home on November 16th.
