Helping Hearts Award Scheme

Helping Hearts Awards scheme

In 2000 the Heart of England Co-operative Society launched the Helping Hearts Award scheme helping charities and worthy causes across our trading area.

The Society has pledged at least £50,000 each year and this year the Society celebrates pledging more than £1 million to benefit the local community.

Since the launch of the scheme it has helped hundreds of charities and groups in the regions of Coventry, Warwickshire, south Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

Some of the groups we have helped recently…

The Society was delighted to support the ‘Men in Sheds’ project based at the George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton. The volunteer group meet two mornings a week to get creative and learn new skills, as well as helping them to socialise.

Children at a Coventry primary school are learning to play the ukulele.

The Society awarded £1,000 towards the purchase of instruments for the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Primary School in Walsgrave Coventry.

Katherine Owen, music teacher, said since the arrival of the instruments the children have been really embraced their lessons, having such good fun and have been really enthusiastic.

Jo Dyke, Community & Membership Adviser of the Heart of England Co-operative Society, said: “We receive applications from some fantastic groups which are going all out to engage with their communities, bringing them closer together and working together for the benefit of everyone around them.”
