The survey revealed a plethora of ideas – from taking a road trip across the USA (3) to visiting the Arctic / Antarctic (7) and going on safari (8).
Water and the sea-related dreams dominated the top ten, with living by the sea the most popular choice at number one, taking a cruise at number two and swimming with dolphins at number six. Other travel related themes including living abroad, at number four.
A separate poll also commissioned by The Co-operative Funeralcare named Sir David Attenborough the most inspirational figure among over 50s, while others on the list included The Queen, Joanna Lumley and Mary Berry.
Darryl Smith, General Manager of The Heart of England Co-operative Society’s Funeral Division, which operates a 13-strong network of The Co-operative Funeralcare branches across Coventry, Warwickshire, south Leicestershire and Northamptonshire, said: “Living for the moment is very much on the agenda for those who are 50-plus. The over-50s bucket list demonstrates an increasing ambition to experience a life well lived and create good memories both for ourselves and with those we hold dear.
“Though many of the achievements on the bucket list are a once in a lifetime opportunity, often we see that it is the everyday memories which can trigger a smile and lead families to still speak our name long after we are gone.”
